Text messages
How Egatherly uses SMS, how a number gets on the list, and how to get off it.
What the texts are
Egatherly sends event invitations and the messages that go with them: the invitation itself, a reminder before the event, updates the host sends to their guests, and a thank-you afterwards. Every text is about a specific event you were invited to or are hosting. There is no marketing programme and no promotional texting.
How you opt in
There are two ways a mobile number ends up on the list, and both are a choice someone makes on this site:
- As a guest, you can enter your mobile number when you reply to an invitation. Doing so is your consent to receive texts about that event — and only that event — from the person hosting it.
- As a host, you can give your own mobile number when you create an account, which turns on text notifications about events you host. When you add a guest's mobile number to a guest list you confirm that you know that person and have their permission to invite them by text.
Numbers are never bought, scraped or shared between events. A number is only ever texted by the host who entered it, about the event they entered it for.
How often
Message frequency varies by event. A typical event sends one invitation, one reminder and occasionally an update from the host — usually fewer than five texts per event. Message and data rates may apply.
How to stop
Reply STOP to any message and texts from this site stop immediately, for every event your number is on. You will get one confirmation that you are opted out and nothing further. Reply START to opt back in.
Reply HELP for a short description and a link to this page. Email invitations continue to work after you opt out of texts — the two are separate.
Your number and your privacy
Mobile numbers are stored only to deliver these messages and are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for their own marketing. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third party. The texting provider that carries the messages sees the number and message content only as needed to deliver them. The full privacy notice covers everything else this site stores.
Who is sending
Messages come from Egatherly on behalf of the host of the event named in the text. This is a self-hosted installation, so the operator of this domain is responsible for the programme; questions and support requests go to them. See the terms for the rest.
